Rock of Ages Field Trip

We traveled to Barre yesterday to visit the Rock of Ages granite quarry.  We learned the 3 minerals that compose granite:  mica, feldspar and quartz.  Does that make granite a rock or a mineral?  Some pictures of our trip are posted below:

Embracing the unexpected

"This was unexpected!" announced Joe as he sauntered into the classroom Friday morning.  It was a little out of the ordinary to see your teacher dressed in an apron and chef's cap, flipping pancakes on an electric griddle on the kidney table.
We celebrated our hard work and the end of the NECAP testing with a surprise pancake breakfast in Calliope 3-4.

Chew the Fat

This week's idiom of the week is "chew the fat."
It means...friendly talk; to chat in a casual way.

When Ms. S. was talking with another teacher and the class started getting a little chatty, Kyle said "Ms. Schoolcraft, we were just chewing the fat!"
